Library services for alumni and community
As an alumnus of Royal Roads University or Royal Roads Military College, or a member of our local community, you may request a community borrower card. There is no charge for this card, which will allow you to borrow books and other materials from our regular collection. Review borrowing and user information.
Access to online resources
Alumni and community members can access library databases in person at the Royal Roads Library.
Open scholarly resources
Looking for access to scholarly articles and can't visit a library in person? Explore our guide on open-access scholarly resources.
The world of academic publishing is changing, and millions of top peer-reviewed articles can now be accessed without a library account or personal subscription. Our guide will give you the tools you need to conduct effective research using open access resources.
Why can't the library provide alumni or community members with remote database access?
Although academic publishing is changing, academic libraries are still generally contractually unable to provide access to alumni or community borrowers.
Though we are able to provide community and alumni users with limited access to our online databases on site, our licenses prohibit the offsite use of our databases by anyone other than current students, staff, and faculty.
Publishers license content to us at a discounted educational rate. Access is therefore restricted to educational, rather than commercial or entertainment, purposes.
Students retain remote access to RRU databases for 30 days after their program's last course ends.
