For Faculty and Staff

What is Document Delivery?

Document delivery, referred to as "Doc Del", is the process by which the library sends out RRU library materials to staff and faculty at a distance.

Who is it for?

Any current RRU staff and faculty.

What can be borrowed?

Books can be sent to current staff and faculty who reside within Canada.

Articles can be sent to current staff and faculty who reside within North America.

Videos and DVDs are not sent off campus. You must be able to check out the video in person.

Before placing a Doc Del request please search the RRU library catalogue and the RRU journal list/article databases to ensure the material is available through our library and available. If you need assistance in searching the catalogue or databases, please contact a reference librarian at reflib@royalroads.ca or call 250.391.2575.

How long does it take?

The length of time it takes for items to reach you depends on mailing time. We strive to fill a request within 24 hours (during business days) of receiving it.

How much does it cost?

This service is free for current RRU staff and faculty.

How do I make a request?

Please submit your request via this online form: http://library.royalroads.ca/ill-requests and include as much of the following information as you have:

  • Full name and program
  • Student Number
  • Current mailing address
  • Book / Journal title
  • Article title
  • Call Number
  • Author / editor
  • Volume & issue of journal
  • Page numbers

How can I receive my material?

Books and articles are mailed via regular mail.

We are not able to transmit electronically (PDF to email) as this infringes on electronic reproduction copyright permissions.

How do I return my material? When is it due?

Photocopies are yours to keep.

Books must be returned using the pre-paid return address label included with your books.

Books must be received by the library on or before the due date to avoid overdue fines.

BC One Card: The BC One Card is only valid at participating BC public libraries. University libraries are not currently participants and all materials borrowed from RRU must be returned directly to RRU.

Can I renew items? How do I do this?

Books can be renewed as long as a hold has not been placed on an item. We strongly recommend that you renew your items before mailing them back to RRU.

Items can be renewed online at http://library.royalroads.ca.

Do not hesitate to contact us should you need any assistance or are having any problems with renewals, loan periods or returning books. You can email rruill@royalroads.ca, or phone 250.391.2600 ext 4224 or the library's circulation desk at 250.391.2575.
